A researcher assessed body weight in a community using two methods. First, participants were asked, “Do you think you are overweight?” (Possible answers: ‘yes’ or ‘no’). All participants were then weighed and classified as ‘overweight’ or not. The assessment was however done separately by hypertensive status. Among 270 hypertensive participants, 108 were classified as overweight on the basis of being weighed. Of these 108, 54 reported themselves as overweight when questioned. Of the 162 participants not classified as overweight on the basis of being weighed 16 reported themselves as overweight when questioned.
