The view that abnormal behavior is the result of evil spirits can be traced back to the Stone Age. In ancient times, several nonscientific methods were applied to rid the body of evil spirits. With time and scientific advancement, these demonological explanations and treatments subsided. However, in modern times, some treatments based on demonological approach are still used.
