The most fundamental use of psychology is to enhance the lives of people by learning about their inner functioning, such as behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. However, the major focus for psychologists in the past was the abnormal behavior that resulted in psychological distress. As the field advanced, prevention and positive psychology was introduced as a way to shed light on the positive characteristics and behaviors of humans.
