Answer to Problem 33P

The x components of A+B+C is 7.00 and y components of A+B+C is 9.00 .

Explanation of Solution

Given:

Value of Ax is 5.00 , value of Ay is 7.00 ,value of Bx is 4.00 , value of By is 3.00 , value of Cx is 2.00 and value of Cy is 5.00 .

Formula used:

Vector is the quantity that has both magnitude and direction.

Write the expression for x component of A+B+C .

  Sx=Ax+Bx+Cx …… (1)

Here, Ax is the x component of vector A, Bx is the x component of vector B, Cx is the x component of vector C and Sx is the sum of x components of vector A, vector B and vector C.

Write the expression for y component of A+B+C .

  Sy=Ay+By+Cy …… (2)

Here, Ay is the y component of vector A, By is the y component of vector B, Cy is the y component of vector C and Sy is the sum of y components of vector A, vector B and vector C.

Calculation:

Substitute 5.00 for Ax , 4.00 for Bx and 2.00 for Cx in equation (1).

  Sx=5.00+4.002.00=7.00

Substitute 7.00 for Ay , 3.00 for By and 5.00 for Cy in equation (2).

  Sy=7.003.00+5.00=9.00

Conclusion:

Thus, the x components of A+B+C is 7.00 and y components of A+B+C is 9.00 .

Answer to Problem 33P

The magnitude of A+B+C is 11.40 and the direction of A+B+C is 0.614i^+0.789j^ .

Explanation of Solution

Given:

Value of Ax is 5.00 , value of Ay is 7.00 ,value of Bx is 4.00 , value of By is 3.00 , value of Cx is 2.00 and value of Cy is 5.00 .

Formula used:

Write the expression for vector A.

  A=Axi^+Ayj^

Write the expression for vector B.

  B=Bxi^+Byj^

Write the expression for vector C.

  C=Cxi^+Cyj^

Write the expression for sum of vectors.

  S=A+B+C …… (3)

Substitute Axi^+Ayj^ for A , Bxi^+Byj^ for B and Cxi^+Cyj^ for C in equation (3).

  S=(Ax+Bx+Cx)i^+(Ay+By+Cy)j^ …… (4)

Write the expression for magnitude of sum.

  |S|=S2 …… (5)

Here, |S| is the magnitude of sum of vectors.

Write the expression for direction of sum.

  S^=S|S| …… (6)

Calculation:

Substitute 5.00 for Ax , 7.00 for Ay , 4.00 for Bx , 3.00 for By , 2.00 for Cx and 5.00 for Cy in equation (4).

  S=(5.00+4.002.00)i^+(7.003.00+5.00)j^=7.00i^+9.00j^

Substitute 7.00i^+9.00j^ for S in equation (5).

  |S|= ( 7.00 )2+ ( 9.00 )2=11.40

Substitute 7.00i^+9.00j^ for S and 11.40 for |S| in equation (6).

  S^=( 7.00 i ^ +9.00 j ^ )11.40=0.614i^+0.789j^

Conclusion:

Thus, the magnitude of A+B+C is 11.40 and the direction of A+B+C is 0.614i^+0.789j^ .
