(1) The IUPAC name of paracetamol is N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide and
N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethanamide.
(2) Paracetamol was synthesized by Harmon Northrop Morse at John Hopkins University in
1877. He did it by reducing p-nitrophenol with tin in glacial acetic acid. But paracetamol was
first tried on humans by Joseph von Mering in 1887.
(3) Paracetamol comes in different forms such as tablets, capsules, soluble tablets, injections
and in liquid form for children. The picture of paracetamol in tablet form is given below:
