World Vision International-Ghana has secured a 50 million Ghana Cedis from the Mastercard Foundation for a 3-year youth employment project. The project seeks to develop the capacity of Ghanaian Youth aged (15-24) years in entrepreneurial skills to enable them access capital and set up their own businesses. The youth entrepreneurial development and employment initiative covers various sectors like construction, agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, services among others. The first phase of the project which is the pilot is expected to cover some selected Ghanaian youth in Accra, Kumasi, Koforidua, Ho, Takoradi, Sunyani, and Tamale. Prior to approval of the project, Care International Ghana Project Management Unit devoted sometime to conduct a literature review in order to understand the current economic wellbeing of Ghanaian youth in terms employment and income levels among others. These were followed by needs assessment studies on current employment need of the Ghanaian youth. To ensure that the project is accomplished on time and within quality levels to the expectation of all stakeholders, the appointment of a project manager should commence after approval of project charter and it is expected to last for 14 days. Developing a project work plan is expected to last for 20 days and must begin after a project manager is appointed. Appointment of other core project management team (Accountant, Procurement and Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist) is expected to be 20 days and should commence at the same time with appointment of a project manager. Stakeholder engagement on youth group and procurement of goods and services are expected to begin after a project manager is appointed. Whilst stakeholder engagement will last for 20 days, procurement is expected to last for 30 days. Developing a monitoring a reporting system will commence immediately an M&E Specialist has been appointed. As part of recruiting eligible youth, youth eligibility screening will be performed after procurement is completed for a period of 25 days. This will be followed by the selection of qualified youths after eligible youths had been screened for 20 days.
