The term "American imperialism" refers to the US's economic, military, and cultural domination over other nations. Because of industrialization, American firms sought new faraway markets to advertise their products during this time. Those incentives frequently overlap and interact in order to achieve the imperialistic nation's aims. The five fundamental incentives for imperialism are exploration, monetary expansion, superior political power, highbrow dispersion, and the promotion of spiritual concepts and practices. In 1841, Venezuela objected to the British delineation, citing territorial delimitations established after their independence from Spain. Venezuela claimed two-thirds of British Guiana's territory, saying its borders extended as far east as the Essequibo River. Invoking the Monroe Doctrine, newly appointed US Secretary of State Richard Olney wrote to Lord Salisbury, the British Prime Minister, and Foreign Secretary, in 1895, requesting that the border dispute be published for arbitration. The Monroe Doctrine, according to Salisbury, has no well-known crook standing. As a result of the United States' dissatisfaction with this reaction, President Grover Cleveland petitioned Congress in December 1895 to establish a border panel, stressing that the committee's conclusions be executed "by all means." The bill was firmly passed by Congress, and rumors of a clash with the United Kingdom began to circulate among the American press. The Monroe Doctrine was sent to the American Boundary Commission, and nothing more was said about it. Venezuela accepted to arbitrate excitedly, confident that the tribunal would decide in its favour. The panels finally reached a decision on October 3, 1899, instructing that the boundary follow the Schomburgk Line. Despite the fact that the judge rejected Great Britain's more grandiose claims, the 1835 demarcation was upheld. Regardless of their sadness, Venezuelans silently supported the commission's recommendations. The Anglo-Venezuelan border conflict became even more significant because it signalled, for the first time, a more outward-looking American foreign policy, particularly inside the Western Hemisphere. On a global scale, the event established the United States as a global power and signalled that it would exercise its claimed prerogatives within the Western Hemisphere under the Monroe Doctrine.
