Why by 1640 did slavery become a race based institution in the United States?
Slavery started from the Production and development of Sugar demand. Since sugar is yielded from Sugarcane which was not possible to grow in Europe. Thus the European settlers of America started the Sugarcane harvesting and brought the slaves from Africa. This marked the very first beginning of the Slavery followed by the work of growing cash crops, labour ship and other menial jobs.
