Memory is the perseverance of acquiring, comprehending and retain information over the time, through the process of encoding, storage and retrieval.

System model or Multi Store memory model discovered in 1968, states that there are three unitary stores of memory and it moves in linear direction from first store to the next. These stores are sensory memory, short term memory and long-term memory. Each of these stores have distinct pattern of processing information (encoding), capacity and the duration for which the information stays in that store. Information is processed or encoded (Encoding) in each stage, and is stored (storage) for a period of time, and is retrieved (retrieval) whenever required.
