Conditioning is a reaction that occurs with increasing regularity in a clearly defined and stable environment, or a given stimulus (or signal) becomes increasingly effective at evoking the desired response. There are two types of conditioning namely:
- Classical Conditioning-The goal of classical conditioning is to establish a connection between a naturally occurring stimulus and a previously neutral stimulus. In classical conditioning, an unconditioned stimulus is paired with a previously neutral stimulus (like the sound of a bell) (the taste of food).
- Operant Conditioning - is a behavioral psychology learning theory that emphasizes the importance of reinforcement in conditioning. It highlights the influence that incentives and penalties for particular activities can have on a person's subsequent conduct. The main elements of operant conditioning are positive and negative reinforcement, positive and negative punishment, schedule of reinforcement and law of effect.
