What type of agar would you use to grow gram negative bacteria
Gram-negative bacteria are the bacteria that do not consist of the crystal violet stain and they are utilized in the Gram staining method for bacterial differentiation. They are identified on the basis of their cell envelopes, which consist of a thin peptidoglycan cell wall that is sandwiched between the inner cytoplasmic cell membrane and the bacterial outer membrane.
Agar can be defined as the mixture of two components divided into the linear polysaccharide agarose and a heterogeneous mixture of smaller molecules known as agropectin. It forms the supporting structure in the cell walls of certain species of algae and released during the boiling process. These algae are described as agarophytes and they belongs to the phylum Rhodophyta (red algae).
