Genetic disorder is a health problem that had resulted due to one or more abnormalities of a person' genome or DNA sequence. Mutation is the main cause for genetic disorders.
Although there are few common symptoms of genetic disorder, most of the symptoms vary from person to person based on the specific nature of the genetic disorder that had affected the person. These symptoms may also be fund in people without a genetic disorder. The following are some of the common symptoms of genetic disorder:
- Ear abnormalities
- Unusually shaped eye
- Facial features are unusual and looks different from other family member
- Unusual birthmarks
- Excessive body hair
- Brittle/sparse hair and white patches of hair
- Misshaped teeth
- Webbed fingers or toes
- Unusually tall or short stature.
Since genetic disorders are due to changes in nucleotide sequence of DNA, it results in synthesis of an abnormal protein instead of a normal structural and functional protein. Thus, most of the genetic disorder symptoms affect the physical traits of a person.
