In psychology, a stereotype is a permanent over-generalized thought about a particular group, individual or notion. It is a mistaken idea or belief of people to be like others in their surroundings, both characteristically and mentally.
Steele and Aronson have coined the term ‘stereotype threat’. They defined it as “socially premised psychological threat that arises when one is in a situation or doing something for which a negative stereotype about one group applies.”
Inequality rises when there is discrimination regarding any element: gender, sex, religion, beauty, habits and any behavioral traits. Thus when an individual or a small group of individuals omits the stereotypical thoughts, they mostly face social inequality. Like most popularly, gender inequality results from stereotype threat, the profession like caregiver or bus driver is still categorized as women and men job respectively.
