What is Sadness?
Basic emotions are the fundamental diverse from each other and all emotional experiences are a compound of these basic emotions. Paul Ekman was the psychologist who came up with the term in the year 1970. He believed that basic emotions are universal.
Eight primary emotions introduced by Ekman include anger, fear, joy, disgust, surprise, trust, anticipation, and sadness. He explained that each primary emotion acts as a trigger of response with a physiological purpose. He provided an explanation for this in the form of a wheel of emotions. Where each emotion was the polar opposite of another primary emotion. Fear is the opposite of anger, Joy is the opposite of sadness, Disgust is the opposite of trust and anticipation is the opposite of surprise. The wheel of emotions was made of combinations in which a mix of two primary emotions was represented with a color.
