> Sexual response cycle includes phases of bodily and affective changes due to arousal, during sexual activity. Desire, arousal, orgasm and resolution are the four important phases in sexual response cycle. Desire phase ranges from few minutes to hours and it is characterized by increased, heart rate, breathing and muscle tension.
> Hence, Sexual response cycle passes through four phases. Desire phase is first stage in the cycle.
> Dysfunctions affecting desire phase :-
1) HSDD - Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is marked by low or reduced sex drive or may be complete absence of drive. Symptoms of this disorder include reduced sexual fantasy and thought, lack of desire to initiate, no attention to stimulation, avoidance of situations leading to sex. Some of the important possible causes of hsdd are anxiety, depression, breast cancer, hypothyroidism, diabetes etc.
2) SAD - Sexual aversion disorder refers to frequent and persistent avoidance of genital contact with sexual partner. It includes extreme aversion to sexual act resulting in distress and interpersonal problems. SAD in men is caused by performance anxiety while in women, this disorder is associated with rape, molestation and other traumatic conditions.
> Hence, Sexual desire is affected by HSDD and SAD. These dysfunctions are psychological disorders related to reduced sexual drivevand aversion to sexual acts.
