What are the 2 theories that explain the cultural changes that pushed the colonists toward declaring war against Great Britain.
The American revolution was a radical development in Europe which saw the 13 colonies of Britain in the Americas rebel against British overlordship. The crisis began in the aftermath of the costly French and Indian Wars when Britain decided to tax the colonies for the expenses they had incurred in defending them. This tax caused much resentment in the colonies who responded by requesting at least for representation in the British parliament. When their requests for representation were dismissed and the intent of collecting taxes more strictly enforced, Americans began to respond provocatively. The Boston Tea party is a good example of the subversive actions against British authority.
