Question
The Federalists favored the Constitution drafted at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1787, believed it corrected weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation by creating a stronger national government with three branches having powers and checks upon the others. The Ant-federalists were concerned that a central government would be too strong and take away states’ rights. Keep in mind the country had only existed as a nation independent from England since 1781. People had identified as a member of a colony, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, etc, not as first a citizen of this new entity the United States of America. We still tend to be like those first Americans, divided over the role of national government versus states powers. Which would you be, a Federalists or an Anti-federalist? Why?
