VISUAL SKILLS What will happen in a muscle cell that
has used up its supply of oxygen and ATP? (Review
Figures 9.18 and 9.20.)
Muscles:
In animals, soft tissues found known as muscles. Muscles cells contain myosin and actin proteins that help in the contraction of muscles. Muscle's main function is locomotion and maintains posture. Muscle tissues derived from mesodermal layers. The word muscle derived from the Latin musculus that means "little mouse" due to contractile muscle appears like a moving mouse.
Muscle cells act as "Facultative anaerobes" which means muscle cells produce ATP by using respiration or fermentation.
During strenuous exercises, muscle cells consume a high volume of oxygen and ATP. The rate of respiration increases. Due to these conditions, muscle changes from aerobic respiration to lactic acid fermentation.
