Under resting conditions, the ATP-PCr system plays which role? a. fueling most major cellular processes b. lowering metabolic enzyme activity c. replenishing cellular ATP reserves d. not active at rest

The ATP-PCr system is an anaerobic energy system which can provide short bursts of high energy during intense activity. The two components of this system are adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and phosphocreatine (PCr).
ATP is the major source of energy for the body and is produced and stored during the process of respiration.
PCr or creatine phosphate is a source of energy which can be rapidly mobilized and used for recycling of ATP during exercise. It contains a phosphate molecule attached to the creatine structure. This phosphate can be added to ADP under anaerobic conditions to produce ATP. This provides the sudden burst of energy during high intensity workouts. This energy can only last for 10-15 seconds, until the PCr stores are depleted and the replenishment of PCr by aerobic processes requires 2-3 minutes of rest.
