According to this law, the magnitude of the electric force acting between two charges q1 and q2 separated by a distance r is given by the formula,

F=kq1q2r2 

where k is Coulomb's constant.

The direction of this force is along the line joining the charges. The force is repulsive if the sign of the charges is the same. The force is attractive if the sign of the charges is opposite.
