Two Rankine Cycle Steam Power Plants are being considered for construction. The design parameters for each plant are as follows: Plant A (High Pressure): 80 bar Steam Pressure at Steam Generator (Boiler) outlet Steam Temperature at Steam Generator (Boiler) outlet Condenser Pressure 400 °C 0.07 bar Plant B (Low Pressure): 40 bar Steam Pressure at Steam Generator (Boiler) outlet Steam Temperature at Steam Generator (Boiler) outlet Condenser Pressure 400 °C 0.07 bar (1) Neglecting all pressure, drops, temperature drops and feed pump work, sketch both cycles on the same T-s diagram and calculate the cycle thermal efficiency of each plant. (ii) Calculate the ratio of the heat rejected by each plant if the turbines are to produce the same output. (iii) Discuss briefly the results of your calculations and the selection of either plant for construction.
