Question
  1. Use the attached piezometer map to make your own, clean version of the map, and indicate the elevation of the water table at all piezometer locations.
  2. Draw equipotential lines (lines of equal water table elevation) using regular intervals – creating a contoured map of the water table.
  3. Determine the direction of groundwater flow based on the horizontal gradient. Label  the areas of recharge and discharge directly on your map.
  4. Flow lines: Draw flow lines on your water table map. The lines should be at right angles to the equipotential lines and extend from the recharge area to the discharge area.
  5. Hydraulic Gradient, Specific Discharge (Darcy Flux), Average Linear Velocity:

Using your water table map, estimate an average hydraulic gradient between two locations, call them locations A and B, one at the eastern-most and a second at the western-most extent of your dataset (note the north arrow on the map).

Calculate the specific discharge, q, between the two locations. For this calculation you will need a value for hydraulic conductivity, K. You’ll have to calculate K from the slug test data (well 21) that are also provided in the spreadsheet screenshot. While K will not be uniform for the whole aquifer, your calculation will be a first order estimate.  How to calculate K: https://ibb.co/Vpnfk7D

Calculate the average linear velocity. This calculation requires an estimate of porosity. Use a value of 0.3 for this, or some referenced value for this type of sandy aquifer. Estimate the travel time for a non-reactive contaminant to travel from location A to location B.

Provide a description of your calculations.
