The molarity of an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is determined by titration against a 0.361 M perchloric acid (HCIO4) solution. If 34.4 mL of the base are required to neutralize 14.0 mL of perchloric acid, what is the molarity of the sodium hydroxide solution? Give your answer to three significant figures.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given data :

molarity of perchloric acid , HClO4 = 0.361 M

volume of perchloric acid = 14.0 ml

Volume of base , NaOH = 34.4 ml

The neutralization  reaction between HClO4 and NaOH :

NaOH (aq) + HClO4(aq) ==> NaClO4 (aq) + H2O (l)

The molar ratio of acid : base = 1:1
