Summarize the structural and functional differences
between DNA and RNA
There are two important types of nucleic acids known, that is DNA and RNA. Both DNA as well as RNA are synthesized from nucleotides, each containing a five carbon sugar backbone, a phosphate group, and a nitrogen base. The DNA provides the code for the cell’s activities, whereas RNA converts that code into proteins to carry out essential cellular functions. The sequence of nitrogen bases are Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, and Guanine in DNA that confers uniqueness in every individual and its characteristics. The nitrogen bases A and T are linked by double bond and C and G are linked by triple bond forming the 5′-3′ phosphodiester linkage found in the nucleic acid molecules.
