Introduction

AlCl3 is a reagent used in organic chemistry for chlorination of aromatic compound and Friedel-Craft reaction. AlCl3 is used to generate electrophile from a halide compound. AlCl3 is a lewis acid and can readily accept an electron from alkyl halide which forms adduct. Chloride has a better affinity towards aluminium so adduct forms an electrophilic centre on the alkane part which can undergo reaction with potential nucleophile like benzene.
