Question

Show any working means to show the Strecker pathway stepwise and link the products listed to the starting materials that you get to.  No mechanisms are required.

The Strecker degradation is the result of the reactions of a-dicarbonyl species
with amino acids. Importantly, this gives rise to both volatile aldehydes and
pyrazines (that can result in food aroma and flavour).
A significant amount of the pyrazine A and the aldehyde B were found in a foodstuff after
cooking and were thought to be the result of Strecker degradation.

If these were the products of Strecker degradation, work backwards and draw the structures of
the a-dicarbonyl species and the amino acid from which they are derived. Be sure to show any
working.
