Question

Should the company Walgreen focus on controllable or uncontrollable factors to effectively implement a successful performance measurement system? Explain your answer.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Controllable factor, sometimes known as "the marketing mix." Product, Price, Place, and Promotion are all included. By adopting performance assessment, managers are motivated to make decisions that benefit the firm and themselves. As a result, the key to developing successful success evaluation methodologies is to define goals that are realistic and involve choices that the management can influence. The company will also evaluate the manager based on controllable factors, or elements of the business that the manager is in charge of and has control over, such sales, expenses, and the purchase of long-term assets, among other things.

Uncontrollable factors or "environmental factors" are those things that are beyond our control. Political, financial, socio-cultural, technical, legal, competitive, and marketing channel conditions are all uncontrollable factors. The team will be motivated to accomplish their duties more effectively with the right incentives. It is demotivating and does not promote organisational and manager target alignment to evaluate a manager based on outcomes of choices over which he or she has no control or uncontrolled circumstances.
