Saudi Arabian women
Amanda Williams, a 33-year old executive VP for manufacturing, will be managing the hiring process for the Amwhy Corporation’s new facility in Saudi Arabia. The new plant, located in a remote rural spot about 30 miles from Jedda, will need approximately 80 full-time factory line workers.
Pressure from the home office back in Geneva to get the operation up and running leaves Amanda just a few weeks to complete the hiring process. Although Saudi Arabia does not have gender equity laws, Amanda is determined to hire the same number of women as men, at the same rate of pay.
“Equity is a concept that should be implemented in every nation of the world,” says Amanda. “I have no intention of changing my hiring standards, which I believe are intrinsically fair and just, simply because I’m temporarily working in a different cultural setting.”
Which of the following, if true, undermines Amanda’s staffing plans?
