How did the Safavids set out to establish centralized power in Iran, and how successful were they?
The Safavid Empire ruled between 1501-1722 and ruled over Iran, Turkey, and Georgia. Shia Islam was the major religion of the state and the empire shows us an example of theocracy. Only Islam was allowed to be practiced and the Empires' trade relations made it more powerful. Art, literature, and architecture developed rapidly during this period. Safavids formed the Empire and Ismail and Abbas were major rules of this Empire.
