respond to the following  statment about the above case  if you agree and why In regards to the case of Mary and Martha, both have violated the ethics code according to American Psychological Association. Mary confiding in Martha regarding her cases with counseling youth is breaking patients confidentiality. This is a depiction as this would be considered an unethical personal relationship due to the discussion of patients issues and Martha applying her expertise when she is not the one treating the patients. Both have knowingly also voided the regard to the five general aspirational ethical principles which include beneficence and nonmaleficence, fidelity and responsibility, integrity, justice, and respect for peoples rights and dignity. Advice I would recommend to Mary is to research more opportunities available to psychologists that are new to the field for continuing education that can assist in more training she needs to meet the competence of her area of specialization. Mary's personal matters can also be a factor in her having difficulty in counseling youth as she has the stress of her current issues on her mind. She should not be offering her service until she is able to acquire her competence. Martha should also reach out to Mary and pause from offering any form of counseling as this is something that someone may gain knowledge of and report both which could lead to termination of license or even insurance fraud in my opinion as the "session" is not being billed to insurance and considered fraud.

case

The American Psychological Association outlines specific professional and ethical standards of practice to ensure clients’ rights to privacy are maintained and the appropriate level of care is provided. Consider the following scenario:

Mary, a first-year psychologist, had a particularly difficult year counseling at-risk youth. At a recent professional development conference, she met Martha, a more experienced psychologist at another agency nearby, who–after listening to Martha’s woes–offered some timely advice for a case Mary was working on. Over time, Mary began to confide in Martha and often sought her advice in handling difficult or emotionally draining cases. Their friendship grew, and Martha sometimes counseled Mary on personal matters as well.
