This is because incorrect primer annealing can lead to the amplification of undesired products. The annealing temperature of a PCR reaction ranges typically from 55 to 60 degrees Celsius. It is generally less than the melting temperature. Primers should be designed such that they have a moderate GC content and at least 20 annealed based on getting good PCR. There is a higher chance of annealing at higher temperatures when the GC content is moderately high.
