Urine culture should be performed by a mid stream sample. The sample of urine should be free from all types of microorganisms that in present in the environment and on the skin.
The procedure of collecting urine can be:-
- Patient should wash their hand with soup and water.
- Clean your perineal area with antiseptic solution.
- Let the small amount of urine into the sample and stop voiding midstream
- Place the urine collecting cup under the penis and vulva and start voiding in it. Do not touch the cup to your skin.
- Collect the small amount of urine into the cup and then void into the toilet.
- Place the lid on the cup and then tightly closed it.
You can also collect the urine from other methods like catheterization and from urine bag also. And then give the collected urine to the laboratory.
