C] An extensive study of crows in cities worldwide has found almost no cases of aggressive behavior. Hence we can conclude that crows are non-aggressive animals.

  • This is an inductive argument. I would say that this is a good argument based on the premise and it would be a strong argument because the samples are large enough since it is a cities worldwide study, not just a single city, however, it does say "almost no cases" meaning that there could be a possibility that some crows can be aggressive making the conclusion false.

[D] We found the victim all alone in the house and it was clear that his throat was slashed in the midst of the night. What is curious, though, is that nobody heard his dog bark. Normally the dog barks ferociously when a stranger approaches the house, no matter at what hour. From this we may conclude that the dog must have known the killer.

  • This is an adductive argument. I would say that this is a good argument because the dog barks ferociously when a stranger approaches, but nobody heard the dog bark that night, so we can conclude that the dog must've known the killer. I think that this is a strong argument because, if the hypothesis was true and the dog did know the killer, then the observation that the dog didn't bark in unsurprising, however, if the hypothesis was false and the dog did not know the killer, then the observation of the dog not barking is surprising, therefore this is a strong argument.
