EMB is selective dye used for isolation of gram negative bacterial ( E.coli and coliforms)
EMB contain eosin Y and methylene blue. the eosin changes colour from dark to purple due to the acidic nature of medium from bacterial growth
EMB also contain lactose and sucrose sugars which help to produce acid from lactose. which play a crucial part in colour changing.
Lactose fermentation also responsible for colour changing.
