Nucleic acid is a macromolecule which is safely present inside the nucleus of the cell. It contain genetic information. Nucleic acid is divided into:- I) DNA II ) RNADNA ( deoxyribonucleic acid) is two stranded , helical structure. Function :- I ) It is important for making protein . II ) It carry genetic information. Properties:- I ) It has capability of self replication. II ) It is stable both structurally and chemically.RNA ( ribonucleic acid) is one stranded structure present inside the nucleus. Function :- I ) It is important for making protein . II ) It carry genetic information. Properties:- I ) It contain uracil base instead of thymine base. II ) It is less stable than DNA . III) Sequence is comparatively shorter . DNA is much more stable as compared to RNA. Main attributes that does not contribute to stability are :- I) Hairpin loop structure is also known as stem loop structure. This is U shaped structure predominantly formed in the mRNA. In mRNA , small section fold up and make complementary base pairing with other section . It is important for termination or transcription process. So , hair pin loop does not contribute to the stability of DNA. II ) Presence of thymine in DNA and uracil in mRNA does not related to stability of DNA. III) DNA is two stranded but integrity of bond and lack of hydroxyl group contribute to stability of DNA. Hence , option ( b) , ( c) and ( d) are correct options .Option ( a ) is incorrect :- I ) DNA is more stable as compared to RNA. This is due to integrity of hydrogen and phosphate bond. II ) Secondly , DNA does not contain free hydroxyl group on 2' carbon atom . So , self degradation is prevented.
