Expert Solution
Step 1: Types of reactions
  • In a Rxn , When two or more substances combine to form a new substance then this type of reaction is called combination reaction .
  • In a Rxn , when a compound brakes up into two or more simpler substances then this type of reaction is called decomposition reaction.
  • In a reaction when element takes the place of another element in a compound then this reaction is called displacement reaction.
  • When two or more compounds reacts to form two or more new compounds by mutual exchange of atom or group of atoms then this type of reaction is called double displacement reaction.
  • Hydrocarbon compounds react with oxygen to form carbon dioxide,  water and heat and light this type of reaction is called combustion reaction .
  • When an acid reacts with a base results in the formation of salt and water this type of reaction is called neutralization reaction.
  • When two or more compounds reacts to form two or more new compounds in which one of the product formed is in solid state then this type of reaction is called Precipitation reaction.
  • A reaction in which oxidation & reduction occurs simultaneously are called Redox reaction ( oxidation - reduction reaction.

Precipitation reaction and neutralization reaction are example of double displacement reaction

Note:

  • For Combination & Decomposition reactions to be a redox reaction, either one or both A and B must be in the elemental form.
  •  All combustion reactions in which elemental oxygen is used and all other reactions which involve elements other than oxygen are redox reactions.
  • Single Displacement reaction are redox reaction and double displacement reactions are not redox reaction.
