In your own words. Were the Maya as civilized as the ancient Egyptians or Sumerians? Why or why not?
The word "Civilized" or the word "Civilization" are imprecisely defined and subjective. When qualifying a particular culture or group of people as "Civilized", we inevitably project our own prescriptive notions of "progress". Most professional Social Scientists would hesitate to use the word. However, with this disclaimer, I will proceed to answer the question by first giving my interpretation of what you most likely mean by the word "Civilized". The complexity of the political organization, technology, and trade networks, usually invokes the word "civilized". So let's go with this definition right now. But, again I would emphasize that is a subjective and imprecise definition.
