In Pakistan, thousands of graduates got degrees from different universities every year. Most of them don't get jobs because of the economic crises. The Jobless rate continued to increase and few of them are involved in illegal activities that cause increasing in the crime rate. The following data show the jobless rate and the number of crimes for 10 different cities: City Jobless Rate (%) Crime Rate (%) Karachi 14 3 Lahore 21 4 Islamabad 16 2 Multan 28 4 Faisalabad 13 3 Jacobabad 34 5 Hyderabad 19 4 Peshawar 30 5 Quetta 42 5 Larkana 33 4 Use Microsoft Excel to compute the correlation coefficient. Is there a positive correlation between the jobless rate and the percentage of crime rate? Discuss it?
Correlation
Correlation defines a relationship between two independent variables. It tells the degree to which variables move in relation to each other. When two sets of data are related to each other, there is a correlation between them.
Linear Correlation
A correlation is used to determine the relationships between numerical and categorical variables. In other words, it is an indicator of how things are connected to one another. The correlation analysis is the study of how variables are related.
Regression Analysis
Regression analysis is a statistical method in which it estimates the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variable. In simple terms dependent variable is called as outcome variable and independent variable is called as predictors. Regression analysis is one of the methods to find the trends in data. The independent variable used in Regression analysis is named Predictor variable. It offers data of an associated dependent variable regarding a particular outcome.
