Born on September 6, 1860, a female activist Jane Addams is significant figure in this context. Jane Addams was a popular activist and social reformer of the progressive era. Jane Addams was on the frontline of the settlement house movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Belonged from a wealthy high class family, Jane Addams was brought in with all kind of privileges and education. In 1888, she got involved for the women’s development movement by bringing the model of settlement house for industrial workers in United states which was popular in london. In 1889, Addams founded Hull House in Chicago. It was the first settlement house in the United States. The goal of this settlement was to educate women wirh all kinds of knowledge including basic skills, arts and literature.
