im working with the normal curve. Normal distribution with a mean of 50 and the standard deviation is 10 what's the percentage of the area

Im trying to find what is between the scores of 35 and 65. I got -1.5 and 1.5 which is means the area between the mean and Z is .4432. I don't understand if why I should add them and not subtract them.

I had a similar question but looking for between the score of 40 and 47. I got -1 and -.3. And the area between the mean and Z is .3413 and .1179. Where is Subtracted .1179 from .3413 to get .2234 or 22.34%

I just want to know how should I know whether to add or subract the two numbers to get the percentage of the area between the scores
