The pancreas serves 2 functions, exocrine and endocrine. The exocrine system pr parts of the pancreas which are made from acini whereas endocrine part of the pancreas made from a specialized group of cells and such cells are islets of Langerhans cell. The endocrine function of the pancreas help to maintain blood glucose levels and the structures called the pancreatic islets.
Generally, contain three cells that are alpha cells, beta cells, and gamma cells. The islets langerins’ beta cells release insulin to maintain blood glucose levels and somatostatin released by gamma cells.
