The Navigation Acts also called The Acts of Trade and Navigation was a long series of different English Laws in 1651 and 1660.  According to the Act, the goods, which were imported from Asia and Africa had to transport only in English ships to England and her colonies. The English Laws were made to develop and promote English ships by shipping trade and commerce between other countries. Another motive of this Act was to restrict colonial trade to England and decrease the dependence on other countries' goods. In simple language, Colonial Merchants can't use foreign ships to send their goods, even it was less expensive. They had to use only English ships for trading with any countries. This means in the 17th and 18th centuries any goods brought from Asia, Africa, or America, which could travel to any country only in England ships, not any other ships. The great Navigation Act was passed by the Commonwealth government in 1651. In 1660 The Law was reenacted in which few products were added which could be shipped directly only to England, Ireland, or another English colony like Sugar, Indigo, and Tobacco. Later Rice and molasses were also added to this list.  In another word, the government wants to increase exports and decrease imports, and Increase the income or tax of the Government.
