Mandela Was jailed for nearly 30 years and gathered support for his cause during his prison term (Soweto and Sharpeville
Protests). William de Klerk legalized the ANC and released Mandela. End of apartheid ensured more racial equality for
South Africans. Mandela became president of South Africa in 1994 and received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
Today, racism is still prevalent in the country as attacks on white farmers are being highly publicized. South Africa is part
of the UN today to prevent conflict and is a democracy so the people have power.
