Hello I’ve completed this question but I got 3 out of 5 points on it for homework. When the temperature drops 4 below degrees. Celsius large water bodies do not freeze top to bottom. Instead only the top layer has ice. This is because Ice has less density than water. You know this because when you add ice to your coke ice floats on top however, usually solids have more density than liquids. What is this special property of water called? (My answer: the speciality property of water is called Polarity because it had polar molecule and water can bond with different types of polar molecules) I got told that this was wrong because it’s not polarity it’s something else. Explain in detail why ice (solid water) is less dense than liquid water. (My answer: ice or solid water id dense than liquid water is due to hydrogen bonds because it holds water molecules into place in solide places. When there’s a structure of ice the water molecules change and then when it melts the framework it collapses and the water molecules park closer together making the liquid water more dense. This property is helpful to living organisms due to the importance of temperature being negative or positive or hotter or cold and which animal could survive in hotter or colder climates which is why it is important to living organisms) How is this property helpful to living organisms
Energy transfer
The flow of energy from one region to another region is referred to as energy transfer. Since energy is quantitative; it must be transferred to a body or a material to work or to heat the system.
Molar Specific Heat
Heat capacity is the amount of heat energy absorbed or released by a chemical substance per the change in temperature of that substance. The change in heat is also called enthalpy. The SI unit of heat capacity is Joules per Kelvin, which is (J K-1)
Thermal Properties of Matter
Thermal energy is described as one of the form of heat energy which flows from one body of higher temperature to the other with the lower temperature when these two bodies are placed in contact to each other. Heat is described as the form of energy which is transferred between the two systems or in between the systems and their surrounding by the virtue of difference in temperature. Calorimetry is that branch of science which helps in measuring the changes which are taking place in the heat energy of a given body.
