Question

Give the Physiological importance of Group III cations

Group III Cation
Aluminum Ion
Zinc lon
Ferric Ion
Cobalt lon
Nickel lon
Pharmaceutical Application
Aluminum is widely used as
an adjuvant in vaccines. This
is also used for various
non-prescription drugs which
include;
antacids,
hemorrhoidal
medication,
antidiarrheal,
buffered
aspirins and even douches.
Zinc Ion plays a role in
pathological and normal brain
processes like synaptic
plasticity and excitotoxicity,
the said ion could help a
neuron injury as well as
allosteric modulator of
glutamate and GABA
receptors. Exogenous
application of zinc ion also
induces seizures and
activates cell death
programs.
Ferric lon could be an iron
supplement that could treat
iron deficiency anemia.
Cobalt Ion is an effective
therapeutic agent for cyanide
poisoning due to its ability to
form a stable metal complex
with cyanides.
Nickel lon is present in
different multivitamins it is
also used to treat nickel
deficiency.
