The epic of Gilgamesh is an Old Mesopotamian poem, the oldest surviving literature, and a religious text. The epic deals with the story of Gilgamesh, the poem's hero; he was the king of the Sumerian city of Uruk. In the second half of the epic, Gilgamesh undertook a long journey to find the secrets of eternal life. The story's characters are Gilgamesh and Enkidu; the former is the king, and the gods created the letter to stop the former from oppressing the people. After testing each other's strengths, they both became friends, and God killed Enkidu because Gilgamesh and Enkidu had killed the bull of heaven. Enkidu's death was terrible for Gilgamesh, and he started a journey to find eternal life, but he never found it. Gilgamesh eventually comprehended that death is part of human life and that God created man to be mortal.
