For b) what is Vry, Vbr, Vyb? Why is Vyb phase -90 degrees and Vby phase 90 degrees?
Q1
(a)
An industrial unit operating at rated power can be represented by a balanced
delta connected load (ZRY etc) of (600 + j120) N and is connected to a 3-
phase, 11 kV and 50 Hz supply.
フ
Draw the circuit diagram, indicating VRY, the yellow line current (IR) and the
load phase current (IBr ).

Voltay
Calculate:
(i)
The three load phase currents (IRY, IYB and Ibr).
(ii)
The three line currents (IR, Iy and IB).
(iii)
The total real power, apparent power, reactive power and
power factor at the 3 phase supply.
An unbalanced condition in the above load in Q1(a) causes the impedance
of ZRY to reduce to (450+j40) N, ZyB to reduce to (500 +j100) Q. and ZBr to
remain the same.

Using the information above:
Calculate the 3 load phase currents (IRY, IYB and IBR).
(ii)
Draw a scaled phasor diagram indicating all phase and line
voltages, and the three load phase currents.
(iii)
Using the scaled phasor diagram or otherwise determine the
three line currents (IR, Iy and IB).
(c)
A 2 wattmeter measurement is made on the circuit in Q1(b). Wattmeter 1
bases its measurements on VRY and IR, and Wattmeter 2 uses VBY and IB.
Determine the power (W) measured by each wattmeter, and the resultant
total 3 phase power. Confirm this measurement using any other suitable
caleulation.
