Explain with scientific reasons the top three properties of Si which make it suitable for
photovoltaic application?
Photovoltaic:
Photovoltaic effect is a process in which the sun’s energy is converted into electric energy.
The PV cells are made up of the mostly silicon.
In this process when the light energy from the sun falls on the PV cell of SI semiconductor.
Its constituents known as photons absorbs the light energy received and transfer that energy in the semiconductor material which than flow as a current.
Silicon is an optimum semiconductor.
Its superior electronic, optical properties, thermal properties as well as mechanical and environment properties makes it optimum in the field of Photovoltaic cells.

- The United States has a lot of federally owned land. Unfortunately, uncontrolled natural forest fires destroy large areas in the western US every summer. In 2002, about 1,000,000 acres of standing timber in national forests were consumed. Some consideration is being given to improved management practices that could produce electric power from residual forest thinning. Estimate the lost energy content of burned US forests during 2002. Assuming the US average electricity demand is about 300,000 MWe, how much forested land would be needed to produce all the country's power? Is this a sustainable alternative? How would you manage the forest lands needed? A few facts to consider: • The total forested area on US federal lands in the lower 48 states is about 600 million acres with a standing stock density of about 100 dry metric tonnes of wood per acre, • ● Woody plants and trees capture solar energy via photosynthesis at an average rate of about 0.8 W/m2 which corresponds to producing about…Assume that most of the electromagnetic energy from the sun is in the visible region near 500 nm. Calculate the maximum value of the work function for a metal to be used in photovoltaic cells to convert solar energy into electricity. Then identify which of the following metals could be used in such a capacity. The maximum value is: ___ J The following metals could be used in the photovoltaic cell described above (mark all that could be used): silicon (Φ = 7.24 × 10–19 J)titanium (Φ = 6.94 × 10–19 J)barium (Φ = 4.29 × 10–19 J)tungsten (Φ = 7.20 × 10–19 J)silver (Φ = 7.59 × 10–19 J)2. An isolated system consists of three identical, distinguishable atoms. Each atom can have energy 0, ε, 2ε. What are the statistical weights of the macrostates which have total energy of 0, ε and 2ε respectively?
- Compute the energy consumption in units of joules per year, gigawatts (GW), and watts per person as (a) fuel, (b) food, and (c) solar radiation for a country of population density 20 person/km2, an area of 1 million km2, and a fuel energy consumption rate of 250 GJ per person per year. Solar radiation reaching the ground is approximately 150 W/m2. The average person consumes food containing 2000 “calories” per day (1 calorie = 4182 J).4. Calculate the potential energy of the system of Na* and CI ions when they are at a distance of 4Å.My physics class has turned to online due to the COVID-19 and I am having trouble with some of the word problems my teacher gave me to work on. She presented me with: I am contemplating a career change. If I had 500g of stolen gold jewelry, how much energy would I have to add to it to melt it (so that it was not longer recognizable)? Pretend that it is pure gold. Would you be able to show me how to accomplish this problem so I can see the steps? Thank you for your time. John Payton
