Question

Explain why is not possible to keep adding more and more cores to speed up the processor and continue on with the growth of Moore's Law.

Expert Solution
Step 1

In the the recent couple of process nodes the chip industry has come to grips with the fact that Moore’s Law is sending for market segments. What isn’t clear is what comes next, because even if chipmakers stay at oldest nodes they will face a series of new challenges that will enhance up costs and increase design complexity. The capabilities of many digital electronic devices are strongly connected to Moore's law.Processing Speed, Memory capacity, sensors, and even the size of pixels in digital cameras. All of these are improving at higher rates. The exponential improvement has dramatically enhanced the impact of digital electronics in nearly every segment of the world economy.

Moores law is said to be breaking down, according to theoretical physicist Michio Kaku. He's talking about the so-called law that says the number of transistors that can be fit on a computer chip will double every 18 months, resulting in periodic increases in computing power.
