Step 1

Cellular respiration is a very complex process. It is divided into four stages-

1. Glycolysis- in this stage food in the form of glucose is converted to pyruvate. It is a 10 step process and every step is catalyzed by a different enzyme.

2. Pyruvate oxidation- In the next stage pyruvate formed in the glycolysis undergoes oxidation and adds on an acetyl group to form acetyl CoA.

3. Kreb`s cycle- the cycle begins with acetyl CoA reacting with oxaloacetate to form citrate and finally, C02 and H2O are formed in many steps ahead.

4. Electron transport chain- is a series of complexes that transfer electrons from electron donors to electron acceptors via redox reactions.
